Looser Aluminium Bronze 75 (LAB 75) – CuAl10Ni5Fe4 DIN EN 12163/12167/12420
This wrought material is an aluminium multi-material bronze, which is available from stock in round, flat, square and hexagon full profile and as plates. Looser Aluminium Bronze 75 is a construction material with high strength properties, even at elevated temperatures; high permanent fatigue strength; good corrosion resistance against neutral and acidic, aqueous media as well as seawater; good resistance to scaling, erosion and cavitation.
The choice of alloys is made primarily according to the required strength properties. From this point of view, Looser Aluminium Bronze 78 and Looser Aluminium Bronze 79 have even higher values.
Hollow profiles from the same alloy group are primarily available from the continuous or centrifugal casting process in the form of tubes, cylinders or flange bushings under the trade name Looser Aluminium Bronze 75-1 and – with even higher mechanical properties – under Looser Aluminium Bronze 78-1. These two alloys are also available from stock in the form of round bars.

Example uses
- Plain bearings with high threshold loads, highly stressed bearings in toggle presses, eccentric presses and forging machines.
- Suitable for plain bearings in hot operations due to high hot hardness.
- Guide bushings, pressure plates, sliding blocks, ball sockets, wear parts.
- Worm and gear wheels with very high loads up to medium speeds are a significant application.
- Pressure and spindle nuts, bolts, shafts, valve seat rings.
- Used in hydraulics as valve bodies, pistons, piston rods, seats, cones and control parts.
- Internal parts of high pressure fittings and hydraulic valves with the highest pressure levels, hot steam valves, fittings for high water velocities.
- Capacitor bottoms, jaws for resistance welding machines.
Machinability
Looser Aluminium Bronze 75 can be machined like steel with the same strength. Machinability, based on CuZn39Pb3 (Ms58Pb) is approximately 20%. Looser Aluminiumbronze is very suitable for forging (temperature range 850-975°C); but not for cold forming.
The annealing temperature range lies between 650-850°C; stress relief heat treatment takes place at 300-400°C. The melting point is 1035-1054°C.
In addition, this material can be welded in the argon arc welding process using electrodes of the same material and direct current. Not suitable for soft or hard soldering or for autogenous welding.
Sliding partners
Mating steel surfaces should be hardened and finely machined. The finer the sliding surfaces, the higher the expected service life. Good lubrication is essential.
